Ahhh Twilight… Even if we love the saga (yes yes, I’m #TeamEdward, don’t judge me 😅), we all agree: the hairstyles of the vampires were sometimes… let’s say… peculiar. And if you’ve ever wondered what happened to Jasper’s hair in New Moon, good news: Jackson Rathbone has finally revealed the mystery. And spoiler… M. Night Shyamalan had something to do with it!
Jasper’s hair in the first Twilight 🌙
In an interview with MsMojo, the actor talked about the hair evolution of his character. In the very first film, he wore his real hair, which the team styled and bleached blonde to match the look of the Cullen vampire.
Except that: Jackson Rathbone has curly and wavy hair, and apparently, the hair team didn’t know how to handle that. The result: a look… a bit strange but still acceptable.
The arrival of New Moon and… the failed wig 💇♂️
During the filming of the second installment, Rathbone was also playing Sokka in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. Since he had to maintain a very specific haircut for this role, it was impossible to dye his hair.
So what was the solution? A blonde wig. Except it wasn’t exactly successful:
“They tried to match the wig to my real hair, and… let’s just say they didn’t do a great job.”
At the time, Jackson was only 24 years old and just starting his career. It wasn’t easy to dare to say: “uh, sorry but this wig is horrible”. So, he smiled, said “great, thanks!”… and filmed like that. 😅
Eclipse and Breaking Dawn: the return of the real hair 🙌
Fortunately, starting from the third film, Eclipse, Jasper still wore a wig (a bit better still), and for the two parts of Breaking Dawn, he could finally have his own hair back.
And to be honest, you can immediately see it when you watch the saga all at once: the Jasper from New Moon really has a “Party City wig” vibe compared to the other films.
The wigs in Twilight: a cult topic among fans 😂
Jackson Rathbone isn’t the only one who suffered from questionable hair choices. We all remember the famous Eclipse wig worn by Kristen Stewart, which has long been a topic of debate.
But in the end, it’s also part of the quirky charm of the saga, right? Fans still laugh about it today, and that’s also what makes Twilight a cult classic.
👉 And if you want to relive all these mythical hairstyles (the good ones as well as the bad), good news: the Twilight saga is returning to theaters for Halloween 2025. Perfect for seeing Jasper, Bella, Edward, and the whole gang on the big screen!
